La Salle County Historical InformationLa Salle County Texas was created by an act of the Texas Legislature on February 1, 1858. The county was created out of the Bexar Land District. It was organized November 2, 1880 with the first County Seat at La Salle. In 1882, the County Seat was moved to the new town of Cotulla. The county is named for the French explorer, Rene' Robert Cavelier, Sieur de la Salle.
